Negotiating the Focus of Joint Work
Partners in different types of organizations will have different types of goals. For instance, school-based partners may be focused on academic performance, which university researchers are focused on developing research-based theories on learning and teaching. Finding the common ground between these goals is core to DBIR work. Partners need not agree on every goal, but the goals should exist along a "complimentary continuum" such that all goals are connected to a central, shared goal that is jointly negotiated among the partners.
