The Building a Teacher Effectiveness Network (BTEN) is a networked improvement community facilitated by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. BTEN focuses on developing and retaining teachers in their first three years. It is a network of different institutional partners, including the Carnegie Foundation, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, the American Federation of Teachers, New Visions for Public Schools, the Austin Independent School District, and the Baltimore City Schools. The networked improvement community provides opportunities for districts to share ideas with one another in order to facilitate cross-district learning.
BTEN is a good example of a project in which teams are developing theory at multiple levels of system and developing and using evidence through continuous improvement research.
